Whether you are new to the Instrumental Society of Calgary’s performances or a seasoned pro, sometimes you need a little more information on what to expect. Here are some frequently asked questions and answers to help make your experience as enjoyable as it can be.

Q: Where do I buy tickets? Are they available at the door?

A: Tickets for the season concerts are available for purchase tickets online or at the door. We accept cash, cheques and major debit and credit cards. To pay online by credit card, call 1-844-598-1273 or mail your cheque to:

Q: Where do concerts take place?

A: All On Stage performances take place at the St. Stephen’s Anglican Church. Please note, the Sound Works events may not be held at this location and are specific to each event.

Q: Is there assigned seating?

A: No, we offer flexible seating available on a first-come-first-serve basis. If you have a large group that would like to sit together or just wish to be in a specific spot, we recommend you arrive early to find a seating arrangement that works for you.

Q: What time should I arrive?

A: We recommend you arrive early to find a seat and get settled to ensure the most enjoyable experience. Most concerts begin at 3:00 p.m. and the doors opens 30 to 40 minutes before the performances. Please check the start time of your event, they can vary depending on the event. Latecomers to performances will be admitted into performance and event venues at suitable breaks within the performance.

We usually include a pre-performance before each concert featuring local, emerging musicians. Audience members who wish to enjoy this pre-performance are encouraged to arrive at regular Sunday concerts a little earlier, as these performances will begin at 2:45 p.m.

Q: Where should I park?

A: There is street parking outside the St. Stephen’s Anglican Church and in the residential neighbourhood in the area.

Q: What should I wear?

A: There is no dress code. Please come as you feel most comfortable, either dressed up or dressed down, whatever will make the experience enjoyable for you.

Q: Can I take photos or videos during the concert?

A: We ask that you please refrain from the use of cellphones, cameras, and other recording devices during the concert. These devices are distracting for others including the musicians and take away from your own ability to enjoy the live music.

The use of cameras and recording devices is strictly prohibited without the expressed written consent of the Instrumental Society of Calgary.

Q: How long are concerts? Is there an intermission?

A: Performance length varies, but most of our On Stage concerts runs approximately 2 hours with one 20 minute intermission part way through.

Events from our Sound Works series may vary in length and may not have an intermission.

Q: Can I bring outside food and/or drinks? What are your options at the venue?

A: We do not allow outside food or drinks within the venue. If you get thirsty, we have partnered with the Village Brewery and Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters to provide beer and coffee for purchase. We also offer wine and bottled water for sale.

Q: When should I clap?

A: Usually, you will know to clap by the body language of the performers on the stage. In most cases, people clap at the end of each piece, and your program will tell you about how long a piece will last. For example, the first piece might be 20 minutes long. After that time, feel free to clap! You can also pay attention to the rest of the audience, there may be some seasoned pros who will start clapping and you can join in. A safe rule of thumb is to not be the first person in the audience to clap, unless you are absolutely certain that the piece is finished.

Q: What happens if I lose my ticket?

A: Any general lost, stolen or misplaced tickets can be replaced, simply contact the Instrumental Society of Calgary Box Office at boxoffice@instrumentalsociety.ca and we will be happy to arrange for replacement tickets.

As one of the benefits of becoming a subscriber, if you lose your subscription package or any individual tickets, they will also be replaced, at no additional cost to you.

Q: Can I exchange or refund my ticket if I am unable to attend the concert?

A: The Instrumental Society of Calgary’s concert tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable.

If you are unable to attend a concert, you may donate them back to the Instrumental Society of Calgary and receive a charitable tax receipt. Tickets may be donated up to 48 hours prior to the concert you cannot attend.

Q: Is the St. Stephen’s Anglican Church venue accessible?
