ISC Education

The ISC’s Education Program brings chamber music to Calgary schools.  In 2015-16, the ISC visited Connaught School and Ramsay School where students heard music for harp and flute (Gianetta Baril and Lucie Jones) and by the Prevailing Winds Ensemble.  Question period with the children is always lively and engaging.  One curious soul asked, "How do you all know each other?", which raised stories about enduring friendships through music.

This season the ISC will present interactive programs in conjunction with school curriculums, thanks in part to the Alberta Music Education Foundation.  We will celebrate Canada 150 by exploring themes of diversity and collaboration.  Chamber music will be used to teach the "science of sound" and to demonstrate how music affects our daily lives.

The ISC provides performance opportunities for promising music students during our On Stage series.  Dedicated young artists can be heard at 2:45 just prior to our regular Sunday concerts, so please make sure to arrive early!

ISC Outreach

The ISC’s Outreach Program brings chamber music to Calgarians with less access to live music.  In 2015-16, concerts were presented at the Alberta Children’s Hospital, Fountains of Mission Retirement Residence, and Village Manor Senior Retirement Home.

As an extension of Outreach and On Stage, the ISC held a seminar day - 'Sound & the Human Spirit' (ISC Soundworks, May 2016) - to examine the healing power of music.  Supported by the Calgary Foundation and Alberta Health Services, the ISC Outreach team begins this fall with 'Musical Conversations', a pilot project at the Tom Baker Cancer Center and adjacent hospital units, using classical music as a conduit for communication, emotional healing and relaxation.

The ISC participates in the Sun Life Financial Arts and Culture Pass program through the Calgary Public Library. This program encourages low-income Calgarians to enjoy arts and culture events throughout the city including our On Stage concert series.
